Position Title: Graphic Design & Social Media Intern
Location: White Earth Land Recovery Project -| Hybrid Option Available
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Internship | Part-Time | Modest Stipend (if applicable)
Duration: 6 months, with potential to extend with possible employment or contract position
Position Summary:
WELRP is seeking a creative, motivated, and detail-oriented Graphic Design & Social Media Intern to support our communications, outreach, and engagement efforts. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to mission-driven work that uplifts community voices, promotes cultural preservation, and expands awareness of the organization’s programs and initiatives through compelling visuals and strategic social media content.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling, design, and community engagement, along with a strong understanding of visual communication and digital platforms. This role is perfect for students or emerging professionals interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit communications and creative production.
Key Responsibilities:
Graphic & Website design(50%)
Design visual content for social media & website, print materials, newsletters, presentations, and events (e.g., flyers, posters, banners, brochures).
Assist in developing visual branding elements for campaigns, events, and programs that align with the organization’s mission and values.
Edit and format photos and other media for digital and print use.
Maintain the organization’s brand consistency across all visual materials.
Collaborate with staff to create visuals that support storytelling and outreach goals.
Social Media & Digital Content (50%)
Develop and schedule content for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others as applicable.
Assist in creating multimedia content such as short videos, reels, or stories that highlight community impact and program updates.
Monitor engagement and track analytics to help inform content strategy.
Support email campaigns and website content updates as needed.
Research and recommend trends, hashtags, and best practices for audience growth and impact.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field.
Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with social media management tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Buffer).
Strong written and visual storytelling skills.
Understanding of and sensitivity to working with Indigenous communities and/or culturally specific organizations is highly valued.
Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and communicate proactively in a collaborative environment.
